Offered is a wonderful period example of an original George Burke studio photograph signed by Chicago Cubs plaer Cliff Heathcote. Based on the Cubs uniform with the Cubby inside the “C” on the left breast and the stirrup style, this photo was taken in 1927-1930; these are Heathcote's last four seasons with the Cubs, and this particular style of the team's home uniform was used during those seasons. It should be noted that the hat worn has no “C,” which is indicative of a hat from earlier in the 1920s-this mash up of uniform elements possibly indicates this is a “Spring Training” photo. The address stamp on the reverse reads “Geo. C. Burke 847 Belmont Ave Chicago, ILL.” This was the address of Burke's studio in the 1920s and 1930s. The photo is presented in a period studio folio, but the photo is actually just a bit too large for it as it measures 11 x 14 inches. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentic. While the photo's reverse suffers from some storage related toning on one side, this does not affect the front of the photo, whose image area remains strong in contrast with a pleasing sepia tone. The border areas do suffer from some minor scuffing and mild toning, and a few small tears that don't approach the image area. Excellent condition.
