Elvis Presley is captured in nine photographs in his gold lamé jacket and gold shoes wowing the crowd at Detroit's Olympia Theatre. After the first few shows in the full gold suit, Elvis wore the jacket with black pants as he started to feel a bit clownish in the whole getup. This combination and the stage details date these photos to the Motor City shows that spring. The whole band of Scotty Moore, Bill Black, DJ Fontana and The Jordanaires are visible in the images. These photos are further identified as Detroit's Olympia Stadium by the marquee in the background promoting the upcoming light-heavyweight fight between Detroit's own Chuck Spieser and Tony Anthony scheduled for April 5, 1957. You'll most-likely recall that Anthony shocked the hometown crowd by knocking out Spieser in the third round. Eight of the photos each measure 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, and one photo measures 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 inches. They are printed on era-appropriate KODAK VELOX PAPER and present with few defects. Near Mint to Mint condition.
