* From the Tommy Young collection.

Offered is an "ELVIS PRESLEY SHOW" ribbon from Elvis Presley's concert in Tupelo, Mississippi at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair & Dairy Show on September 27, 1957. Almost exactly a year to the day after his first appearance in his hometown as a music star, Elvis returned once again to Tupelo to perform at the fairground in a show to benefit the planned "Elvis Presley Youth Center."

The backstage ribbon belonged to Elvis' high school classmate Tommy Young (seen in the photo at right of the concert press conference in Tupelo, just over Elvis' shoulder). These extremely rare ribbons were used in the late 1950s for Elvis' entourage, and the offered ribbon has been notated on the reverse by Tommy "Miss. Fair". Tommy was a high school friend of George Klein, and in 1957 George re-introduced him to Elvis. Tommy ended up being swept up in the Elvis life for about a year, traveling to shows, recording sessions and often riding motorcycles with Elvis. In August and September 1957, Tommy accompanied Elvis and his friends on the west coast trip including the northwest tour, the Hollywood recording session and the concert in Tupelo, Mississippi. The ribbon measures 2 x 4 1/4 inches and presents with several creases and some areas of adhesive residue from being in an album. Very Good condition.
