Colonel Parker was always seeking to capitalize on his main star, and in 1974, the Colonel released an album entitled Having Fun with Elvis on Stage on his own Boxcar label that captured Elvis’ on-stage banter between songs. Elvis was mainly telling jokes and since the album contained no actual musical numbers, the Colonel believed that he could sidestep the agreement with RCA to retain the profits from sales of the album. The album was initially sold at Elvis concerts and since sales were strong, RCA then claimed their rights to the material so they could package and market it. RCA included a warning on the back cover that it was a “Talking Album Only.” While the album was panned by critics for lacking content since most of the comments related to songs that were not included in the soundtrack, the album peaked at number 9 on Billboard’s country charts and reached 130 on Billboard’s 200. The record presents with moderate wear to the edges and corners. The vinyl presents with only very mild scuffing. Excellent condition overall.
