Offered is an early 1970's Elvis Presley souvenir styrofoam "straw" hat that was sold at souvenir stands at his concerts at the Las Vegas Hilton in the period. The paper band still adhered to the hat reads "ELVIS SUMMER FESTIVAL / RCA" and includes the Hilton logo. The styrofoam construction made these hats ephemeral, by nature, but the offered example has survived intact. The Colonel, always keen to exploit any cost-effective marketing method that could be used for multiple events, venues and dates, adopted the Styrofoam hat for use at Elvis’ performances and simply swapped the colored bands to advertise the location, event and record label. The hat measures 11 x 12 ½ x 3 ½ inches and presents with moderate to heavy fading to the paper band, glue stains on the band and minor scuffing and edge wear to the styrofoam hat itself, though the hat is intact. Excellent condition.
