The offered deep red "Sy Devore" button-down cardigan sweater was owned by Elvis Presley, until Elvis gifted the sweater to his bodyguard Dave Hebler. The sweater's style and period labelling indicated it is from the 1960s, and there are many photos of Elvis wearing similar garments, especially in the first half of the decade. It's original tagging is still intact and includes the "Damon Made in Italy" manufacturer tag and the "Sy Devore - Hollywood - The Sands Las Vegas" tags, as well as the size "L" tag in the collar and the "SILCETA 100% ACETATE" tag on the interior seam.
The sweater is accompanied by a signed letter from Dave Hebler which reads:
My name is Dave Hebler, and for a number of years I was Elvis Presley's personal bodyguard. One day Elvis invited me upstairs to his bedroom at Graceland and ask me to take all of his jumpsuits. he complained that they no longer fit him, and that he wanted them out of his closet. I told him I had no use for 50 jumpsuits nor did I have the ability to store them in my apartment. In retrospect, I wish I had. Instead I moved a majority of the jumpsuits to the shed at the back of Graceland. I did take this red sweater for the cold winters in Memphis while waiting to start the next tour. Memphis was much cooer compared to California weather while staying there during the winters. I am not a sweater guy and don't believe I ever wore it. This red sweater has a Sy Devore label and was made by Damon of Italy. I worked for Elvis from 1972 until 1976.
Also included are a letter to the collector to whom Dave Hebler sold the sweater to some years ago, as well as an original "Ballantine Books" flyer for the book Elvis What Happened? that is signed by Hebler. Hebler wrote the controversial book with Red and Sonny West, and it was published in August 1977.
The sweater presents with moderate wear but no damage. Near Mint condition.
