Elvis' love of firearms is legendary. He was rarely without one, and he and his boys spent countless hours taking target practice at Graceland. Stronger still was his fascination with all things law enforcement. Elvis had a deep respect for law officers, and had a large collection of police badges. The offered leather holster with Elvis' initials “E.P.” boldly embossed is described as a “Colt Police” issue, but it would have certainly fit any revolver of the same size as the standard issue Colt “Police Positive Special” revolvers for which it was intended. Whether it was gifted to him by someone in law enforcement we don't know, and it was quite common for Elvis to buy guns 2, 3, or 4 at a time, so he certainly could have acquired it himself during one of his countless trips to various firearm purveyors across the country. It could have come to Elvis with the "E.P." embossing already in place, but it would have been no trouble at all for Graceland's resident saddle maker and leather artist Mike McGregor to add the letters to the leather holster. The accompanying letter signed by Elvis' first cousin, Harold Loyd, reads in part “Fans always want something from inside Graceland, something to remember Elvis by to feel they have a part of him to hold onto. Elvis collected law enforcement items during a period of his life and had quite a large collection; he would receive items from everywhere and everyone. So for this reason I now pass this littlepiece of Elvis memorabilia on to you, this black leather Colt Police 4” Revolver holster with Elvis' “EP” initials, I hope you enjoy it!” The holster measures 5 ½ x 10 inches and exhibits heavy use. The leather is well worn and broken in indicating it was used extensively for its intended purpose. Excellent condition.
