Elvis Presley used a plethora of scarves during his concert performances to dab his face before tossing the memento into audience. The gesture was so popular among fans that the Colonel capitalized on it by creating and selling souvenir scarves with a printed Elvis signature at the shows. Offered is a white concert scarves from an Elvis’ performance in Las Vegas that originates with Kathy Westmoreland, Elvis’ soprano backup singer, who gave the scarf to James “Larry” Miller from the stage in Vegas. There were originally three scarves that came from James Miller, and they were sold as a group and authenticated by Graceland Authenticated. This scarf comes with a copy of a letter from Bill Miller, James’ son which shows an image of Kathy Westmoreland placing one of the three scarves around James Miller’s neck from the stage in Las Vegas in December 1976 (photo at right). The offered scarf comes with a copy of the original letter from Miller's son which reads:

These three Elvis Presley concert scarves were given to my late father, James “Larry” Miller, who was a huge fan of Elvis, by Kathy Westmoreland. He attended over a dozen live shows, most of them at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel where Elvis performed. My father had gotten to know and become friends with Kathy Westmoreland who was one of the back up singers for Elvis from 1972-1977. When my father passed, Kathy posted it on her fan page, which I thought was very nice of her. One of these scarves was actually placed on my dad’s neck from the stage by Kathy during a concert.

Here are a couple more fun notes I would like to share: My dad was aware that Elvis sometimes had difficulty remembering the lyrics of “Sweet Caroline” (which was my dad’s favorite song to hear Elvis sing) during live shows. As a joke, my dad got a copy of the song sheet and had the words reduced in size. When it came time to sing the song at concert, my dad, being in the front row like he always was offered the song sheet. Elvis saw my dad holding it up and took it from him. Elvis opened the folder with the lyrics inside and started laughing as he saw the reduced words that could not be read. He called my dad a few choice words as he was laughing and shook my dad’s hand.

Elvis played in Lake Tahoe, California, and my dad went up to see his show with a lady friend. Elvis was chatting with the crowd between songs and contemplating what to sing next. People were shouting and saying their favorite songs. Elvis stopped and said he was going to sing Sweet Caroline because as he put it, there were two people sitting here that have been to at least 10 or more of my shows. He called my father by name and said he would sing it for them. During the song, Elvis forgot a part of the lyrics and apologized to my dad at the end of the song for messing it up. I know all of this because my dad actually recorded the whole concert that night on cassette tape. I heard the tape only after my dad had passed.

The letter is printed with images of Kathy placing the scarf around James’ neck and of Elvis shaking his hand after laughing at the folder with the lyrics inside. The scarf measures 36 by 35 inches. Near Mint condition
