The offered Elvis Presley VIP Box Set is a sought-after and treasured artifact in its own right. These sets were given to VIPs at the opening night of Elvis Presley's return to live performing on July 31, 1969, at the Las Vegas International Hotel. Very few survived intact. But the offered example has the unique distinction of being signed by Elvis Presley and 10 others for a security guard, Willis,  that worked at The International Hotel. Elvis, Priscilla, members of the TCB band and Memphis Mafia must have appreciated the service provided by Willis, as attested by their kind inscriptions.

The lid of the box has been signed “To Willis Love Priscilla Presley and Elvis Presley” (each in their own hand) and several others: Vernon Presley; James Burton (“To Willis Best Always James Burton”); John Wilkinson (“To all things that are 'Secure'”); Colonel Tom Parker (“Sincerely The Colonel”); Joe Esposito; Sonny West (“Thanks a hell of a lot for your much needed help. Sincerely Sonny West”); Marvin “Gee Gee” Gambill (“Gee Gee The Ole Drunk”); Charlie Hodge (“Thank you Willis, Charlie Hodge”); and one other (possibly TCB Band piano player Larry Muhoberac). This piece is bar-none one of the finest artifacts to ever surface related to Elvis' triumphant return to the concert stage in 1969.

The box set contains its complete original items plus a rarely seen placard that was most-likely adhered to the outside of the bag in which the sets were presented. The cardboard placard reads “Compliments ELIVS and the COLONEL” and measures 12 x 4 inches with small staple holes at the top and corner. The contents of the set include:

  • 1968 Soundtrack LP ELVIS ('68 Comback TV Special);
  • 1969 LP From Elvis in Memphis;
  • Complete 9-Page RCA Victor Press Packet;
  • 8 x 10 Color Photo with 1969 “ELVIS in PERSON” International Hotel Ad Back;
  • Two 8 x 10 black and white RCA Publicity photos from the '68 Comeback TV Special;
  • 1969 “Elvis' Records & Tapes” RCA Catalog; and
  • Four 1969 RCA Elvis Calendars.

While the records show signs of being handled, the rest of the materials present with little to no wear. Near Mint condition overall. The box is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentication. The box top and bottom measure 12 ½ x 12 ½ inches and present with some distresses from storage. The top especially suffers from separations at the corners that have been improved with black tape. The bottom of the box is much nicer. Excellent condition overall.
