Judy Garland has signed the offered postcard in pencil "To Helen, Love Judy Garland." The postcard is from New York's Plaza Hotel, and our lucky fan must have run into Garland leaving the famous 5th Avenue hotel in the late 1950s. The Wizard of Oz star signed the postcard sometime after 1956, when the "Hotel Corporation of America" (printed on the card) purchased the hotel. Garland tragically passed away at only 47 years old in 1969, after a career that spanned more than 40 years. Most famous for her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Garland also starred in Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), The Harvey Girls (1946), Easter Parade (1948), and Summer Stock (1950). During her career, she received an Academy Juvenile Award for The Wizard of Oz, a Golden Globe Award, and a Special Tony Award. Garland was the first woman to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, which she won for her 1961 live recording titled Judy at Carnegie Hall. Also included is a modern 8x 10 photo of Garland as Dorothy with her dog Toto. The postcard is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence Authentication. The postcard measures 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and has adhesive residue on the front from album mounting. Excellent condition.
