Offered is an original release on United Artists letterhead for The Beatles' 1964 film A Hard Day's Night. Three-page release from August 6, 1964, is titled "Picker Foresees Fabulous World Play-Off for Beatles' 'A Hard Day's Night. Record global Print Order of 1800 Set For The Shenson Production." The release goes on to say "The Beatles' 'A Hard Day's Night' will be shown in more theaters in more countries in a shorter length of time than any previous film in the history of the business, it was announced by United Artists Executive Vice President Arnold M. Picker at a press conference in New York today, August 6, with the film's producer, Walter Shenson." The film was released a couple of weeks prior, and it was, to say the least, a raging success. The musical comedy was groundbreaking in its style and format, revolutionizing how the world looked at popular music. It's effects are being felt to this day. The film starred Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr and was directed by Richard Lester (Lester's autograph is also available in this auction.).
Included with the lot are five studio issued 8 x 10 inch photos. One is of Paul from the promotional photo shoot for the film. The other four are headshots of each of the four Beatles used on the movie poster, with their hair retouched for proper print reproduction. Each photo is marked from "A" to "D" in the order they appear on the poster. These five photos show little wear except for grease pencil letter markings and some production markings on the back of one of them. Near Mint condition. The press release measures 8 1/2 x 11 inches and presents with heavy wear, with small tears at the fold marks on pages 2 and 3. The first page has been used to write an extensive memo the day after the press conference about someone requesting some record albums from the United Artists record department. Very Good to Excellent condition.
