Offered are a pair of letters written in a ironic tone to legendary comedians Bud Abbot and Lou Costello. Both letters present a purposely comedic tone, one from the Governor of Massachusetts and one from the Mayor of Wichita, Kansas.

The September 19, 1941, letter is signed by Governor Leverett Saltonstall and reads "My dear Abbott: In return for your unwilling signature in my guest book, I am voluntarily reciprocating with mine, now that I have recovered from your visit. May I suggest the production in the near future of a movie: 'Buck Inmates', starring Abbott and Costello. As suitable location I shall be happy to offer all facilities of our Department of Mental Health."

The July 25, 1942, letter is signed by Wichita Mayor O.F. Sullivan and reads in part "In appreciation of your efforts, I, as Mayor of Wichita, Kansas, a great defense center of the mid-west, do hereby officially bestow upon you both the title of SUPERINTENDANT OF THE PRODUCTION OF LAUGHING GAS. If we can inject a little of Abbott and Costello laughing gas into every bomb, our enemies will laugh themselves to death." This letter references the ongoing World War II.

Both letters are framed and presents with minor age-related toning. Excellent to Mint condition overall.

Pair of Officially Ironic Letters to Abbott and Costello from Gov. of Massachusetts and Mayor of Wichita, Kansas
