The offered RIAA 9X Platinum record award is for Guns N' Roses 1987 LP Appetite for Destruction. The album was not an initial hit--only after the band had toured and received airplay with the singles "Welcome to the Jungle", "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child o' Mine" did the sales start to climb, over the course of a year. It topped the Billboard 200 and became the best-selling debut album of all time, as well as the seventh best-selling album of all time in the United States. With over 30 million copies sold worldwide, it is also one of the best-selling records of all time. The award plaque reads "PRESENTED TO GUNS N' ROSES TO COMMEMORATE THE SALE OF MORE THAN 9,000,000 COPIES OF THE GEFFEN RECORDS ALBUM, CASSETTE & CD 'APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION'". The album was released on July 21, 1987, and initially certified gold on February 17, 1988. The album was certified 9X platinum on February 9, 1993. The offered award was produced in 1993. The award measures 17 x 21 inches and presents in Near Mint condition.
