The offered RIAA Gold Record Award was presented for Elvis Presley's 1961 Soundtrack LP Blue Hawaii. The soundtrack LP was released on October 20, 1961, a month before the film itself was released. The album was a smash hit, staying at number one on the album charts for 20 weeks and staying the the Top 10 for 39 weeks. With the exception of West Side Story, it was the most successful soundtrack of the decade. The single "Can't Help Falling in Love" made it to number 2 on the charts, and with the massive album sales, as far as Colonel Parker was concerned, the die was cast for the foreseeable future.

The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on December 21, 1961, and the offered award was produced at that time based on the white linen matte style. The plaque reads "Presented to COL. TOM PARKER to Commemorate the Sale of More Than One Million Dollars Worth of the RCA VICTOR RECORDS Long-Playing Record Album 'BLUE HAWAII.'"

The award measures  17 x 21 inches and presents with mild wear to the wooden frame and some mild staining to the upper left of the linen area.
