Offered is an RIAA Gold Record Award for The Beatles 1970 LP Let it Be. The album was released in the US on May 8, 1970, and the RIAA certified it Gold just weeks later on May 26, 1970. The offered white matte style award was produced at the time of the certification. Because of the recent documentary Get Back, we have all been let in on the detailed process of creation in which The Beatles engaged to create their late-career masterpiece, Let it Be. Though they recorded the songs for Abbey Road later in 1969, making that album their last recordings, Let it Be was not released until the next year, to become their last album released.

As told in the recent, incredible documentary, the project began as an idea to record a new set of songs for a live UK TV performance, but devolved into a hasty recording session in the brand new Apple Studios with an impromptu live concert on the roof of the building. The album was assembled later to accompany the release of the film Let it Be in 1970, and was actually released after The Beatles had broken up. In the UK and some other non-US markets, the album was available as a box set, which contained a companion photo book, a copy of which is available as the next lot in this auction. The plaque on the offered award reads "Presented to The Beatles to Commemorate the Sale of More Than One Million Dollars Worth of the APPLE RECORDS Long Playing Record Album 'LET IT BE.'" The award measures 17 1/2 x 21 1/2 inches and presents with even toning to the matte area, which is a slightly darker cream color. Near Mint condition.
