Please Note:
A portion of the proceeds from sale of the Elton John lots, 229–281, will be donated to The Elton John Aids Foundation.

The offered "Destroy" brand men's black top was purchased at the Atlanta Neiman Marcus store where a special section was named "Elton's Closet." The special offering of Elton John's personal and stage-worn garments began on June 4, 1996, and was sold out in short order with proceeds going to charity. Elton was actually photographed by the British press wearing what is most-likely the offered shirt at Heathrow Airport in 1990. (Coincidentally, one of his large trunks, also pictured that day at Heathrow, is also being offered in this auction!). The sales of Elton's clothing at his various "Closet" charity sales is well-known, and the clothing is supplied directly from his personal wardrobe. But it is very special to have a photograph of Elton wearing one of the pieces! The shirt still maintains the "Neiman Marcus" price tag that was applied in the "Elton's Closet" sale, and it is accompanied by a letter from a fan explaining how she had early access to the sale at a "grand pre-opening event' and was able to buy the shirt and several other pieces. A copy of the invitation to the "Preview Party" is also included. The size "L" shirt presents with only minimal wear. Near Mint condition.
