Encapsulated PSA/DNA TYPE 1. Offered is a 1937 original news service photo of Babe Ruth and infamous golfer John Montague. Montague was a semi-pro golfer who attained almost mythical status among golf enthusiasts of the 1930s. His legend grew for years as tales of his golf skill, trick shots and massive drives were retold by writers like Grantland Rice. Montague held many golf matches with celebrities, often for charity. The offered photo was taken just prior to one such event in November 1937 with Babe Ruth and Babe Didrikson that drew approximately 10,000 spectators. The original paper caption read in part "That supreme super-self-satisfaction John Montague expressed facially here as he and Babe Ruth tuned up at New York's Fresh Meadow Club Nov. 12 for their charity golf battle there Nov. 14 tells better than words of the mental attitude which earned him title of 'Paul Bunyan of the bunkers.'" The photo measures 7 x 9 inches and presents with one small fold in the upper left. Near Mint condition.
