Offered is Elvis' own blue and white Leach Racquetball bag with zipper top and bottom. The exterior is blue with a white horizontal area across each side containing the red Leach logo. The interior is white, and a clear plastic luggage tag is affixed to the handle. Founded in 1969, the International Racquetball Association organized its first professional tournament in 1974 as the sport was quickly gaining in popularity. One big fan of the game was Elvis, who often played at the custom-built court at Graceland and even dabbled in a business venture to start a series of racquetball clubs called Presley Center Courts. Racquetball was booming in the '70s and Elvis and his friends played almost daily. Along with karate, racquetball was one of his favorite hobbies.
Included with the bag is a handwritten letter from Elvis Bodyguard Dave Hebler that states:
My name is Dave Hebler and for a number of years I was Elvis Presley's personal bodyguard. Elvis loved to play racquetball but did not carry his own bag and equipment to and from outings. On the last occasion that I played racquetball with Elvis, I ended up carrying his bag as well as my own. When my employment with Elvis was terminated shortly thereafter, I still had Elvis' racquetball equipment in my possession. This is the bag pictured above.
What a great score to own the equipment bag belonging to one of the more passionate, yet private, "Wallbangers."
The racquetball bag measures approximately 18 by 12 inches and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated. The bag shows signs of use, including many scuffs and scratches (certainly expected) and minor age toning to the leather. An area of residue from a sticker or tape remains on one end. EX-MT condition.
