If he only had a brain...famed song and dance man Ray Bolger was on his way to Hollywood "legend" status as soon as he appeared as "the Scarecrow" in the 1939 film adaptation of the Frank L. Baum book series The Wizard of Oz. Along with co-stars Judy Garland, Jack Haley, Burt Lahr and Margaret Hamilton, Bolger's performance made the film an instant classic. His career would go on for decades, but no other role would so clearly identify Bolger as a star than his turn on the Yellow Brick Road.

Offered is a group of four items from Bolger's personal life, as well as an autograph. The collection includes:

  • Ray Bolger signed page from 1949 EYE magazine, touting his Broadway run in Where's Charley?;
  • Ray Bolger's award from "The International Registrar of Who's Who Among Old Bastards." The tongue and cheek honor states that the organization "Awards This Certificate to Ray Bolger, OB #487175, and, be it known that this cantankerous and devious OLD BASTARD has spent a life time in deceit ever concealing his true love for his fellowman.";
  • Figural trophy of the Liberty Bell with plaque that reads "Presented to RAY BOLGER by William J. Green, Mayor, City of Philadelphia, March 12, 1983." Bolger received another award in Philadelphia that week, from the Philadelphia Civic Ballet. The trophy measures 6 x 4 x 8 inches. The trophy is accompanied by a letter from the gentleman who acquired it at an estate sale at Bolger's home;
  • 1957 plaque awarded to Ray Bolger "In recognition of Distinguished Achievement in the Theatrical Arts. This certificate is awarded to Ray Bolger by The Lambs." The award is signed and dated May 11, 1957. The Lambs is the oldest theatrical organization in America.

The signed magazine page is accompanied letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentic. Excellent condition overall.
