The offered pair of oversized team photos of the 1980 New York Yankees show the team in a traditional pose and in second, clowning shot that shows catcher Rick Cerone mooning the camera and Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson flipping off the camera from between his legs, while the rest of the team and staff join in the fun. Except for Lou Pinella...who looks exactly the same. Hm. They're a wonderful and rare glimpse into the moments of levity a team can experience during the grind of a big league season. The Yanks finished first in the AL East with 103 wins that year, but were swept by the Kansas City Royals in teh ALCS.
After the tragic death of Thurman Munson on August 2, 1979, the Yankees started wearing a black armband to honor their fallen teammate. They continued to wear the armband from August 3, 1979 through the entire 1980 season. That armband on their jerseys in these photos, as well as the appearance of Manager Dick Howser, who took the helm in 1980, date them to that year. The first photo measures 18 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches, and the second measures 19 x 13 3/4 inches. Both are mounted on heavy, black matte board. The serious photo has a large scratch in the upper left. Excellent condition. But the clowning photo is free of major defects. Near Mint condition.
