This rare map is an early edition of David H. Burr's important pocket map of New York City. It depicts the lower half of Manhattan, starting at 34th St, and parts of Brooklyn, all hand-colored to reflect the different neighborhoods. The map is labeled with the commissioner's grid, as well as ferry routes and pier numbers. Letters and numbers indicate public buildings, hotels, and churches in accordance with a key printed on the inside cover of the map's case. The map is in good condition and generally in tact, with browning throughout and concentrated at the folds, considerable creasing, and some small tears along original folds. Measures 11 1/2 x 16 inches. Excellent condtion.
