Offered is a rare 1888 cabinet photo of the St. Louis Browns. The reverse of the cabinet card features advertising for the "F. W. Guerin Photography Studio" in St. Louis. The card reads "The Famous World Beaters St. Louis Browns. Champions of Am. Association Four Successive Years, 1885, '86, '87, '88. Worlds Champions, 1886, 1887." The photograph includes fifteen players, including team captain Charles Comiskey (center), Tommy McCarthy, Tip O'Neil, Arlie Latham, and “Silver” King. The team mascot (youngster dressed in uniform, top row center) and the team's two greyhounds are also included. The cabinet card measures 6.5 x 4.25 inches, and while it suffers from the obvious effects of age and poor storage for a time, the presents as a classic example of one of the toughest cabinet cards in the hobby. Good to Very Good condition with paper loss, scuffing, edge wear and staining on the reverse.
