1955 Sun Records 223 45 RPM 7-Inch of Elvis Presley's “I Forgot to Remember to Forget” and “Mystery Train” - Elvis' Final Sun Single

The offered strong example of Sun Records 223 features Elvis Presley's songs “I Forgot to Remember to Forget” and “Mystery Train.” Both songs were most likely recorded on July 21, 1955, (some sources date it to a few days earlier), and the single was released in August 1955. This final Sun Records single by Elvis is the one that put him clearly into the national spotlight as a seriously rising star, and it was the first song RCA re-released as soon as the purchased Elvis' contract from Sam Phillips in late 1955. The offered Sun Records single 45 for “Mystery Train” (223) contains matrix numbers which appear in the dead wax areas, with “45-U-156X 20” on side A and “45-U-157X 20” marked on side B. This record sold in huge numbers relative to Sun's other singles of the day, so it was surely pressed at plants in addition to the Memphis' Plastic Products, Inc., but it does not exhibit the dead wax marking “MSI” seen on Philadelphia pressings. This indicates it was either made in Memphis or California. The 45 measures 7 inches in diameter and presents in VG+ condition, held from a better grade by a small "1955" notation on the "Mystery Train" label, as well as a small area of paper loss.
