Offered are four 1956 35mm contact sheets of photographs by Albert Wertheimer of Elvis Presley during his famous July 1, 1956, appearance on The Steve Allen Show. The images actually cover the entire Steve Allen experience, starting two days earlier for the rehearsal on June 29. Wertheimer was given unprecedented access to Elvis over the course of a week in June and July, shadowing him from the TV studio, to his hotel, down to Richmond, Virginia for a concert and back for the show. Then he followed to the RCA recording session that produced "Hound Dog" after the TV show and then on the day and a half on the train home to Memphis. The offered four sheets with period "ALFRED WERTHEIMER" and "TOPIX" news photo service stampings on the reverse capture all three performances of Elvis on The Steve Allen Show with the possibility OF SOME OF THESE BEING UNPUBLISHED. (The following two lots are vintage contact sheets from Wertheimer that cover the RCA recording session and with Elvis in Memphis.) The sheets measure 8 x 10 inches and present in very well-preserved Near Mint to Mint condition.
