In 1956, just as Elvis’ fame was on the rise, Colonel Parker, always looking for ways to capitalize on his star, coordinated efforts with Hank Saperstein to create an entire line of merchandise that could be sold to teenage fans. Under the Elvis Presley Enterprises name, these products were the first to be specifically geared for a younger audience. The market reacted with great enthusiasm and a thirst for anything with Elvis’ image or likeness, making the effort a huge marketing success. The products ranged from clothing, toys, and jewelry to more functional pieces like wallets and pencils. A true time capsule from a merchandising movement that fed the frenzy of an entire generation.
