Offered is a pair of 1956 Elvis Presley RCA Victor 45 RPM Singles of “Hound Dog” / “Don’t Be Cruel” each with a different Sleeve Variation. Each sleeve lists one of the songs first. It is unclear why this was done. Elvis Presley and his band first encountered "Hound Dog" at the Sands Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1956. Presley had been booked for a week in 1956 to appear at the Venus Room of the New Frontier Hotel and Casino. During that week, he saw Freddie Bell and the Bellboys, the resident act at the Silver Queen Bar in the Sands, and their version of "Hound Dog". He loved their burlesque reworking of the number, and he immediately added it to his own live show. He recorded his legendary version on July 2, 1956, and it was released only 11 days later, with a little song entitled "Don't Be Cruel" as the B-side. Based on the matrix numbers and label printing, these are both early Indianapolis Pressings of the record. One record presents in very clean, EX condition, while the other is just lesser VG+ condition.
