Offered is a possibly previously unknown photo of Elvis Presley and his band performing on July 4, 1956, at his legendary concert at Memphis' Russwood Park. Joining Elvis on stage is Memphis DJ Dewey Philips, clowning it up playing his upside down guitar left-handed, standing next to Scotty Moore. Philips was poking fun at the fact that Elvis had recently been "censored" on The Steve Allen Show. In the same vein, Elvis remarked to the crowd “You know, these people in New York are not going to change me none. I’m gonna show you what the real Elvis is tonight.” The concert was a fundraiser for two local charities, and it was estimated that more than 14,000 fans attended what was billed as “not just a rock ‘n’ roll show." Thought there were roughly 100 different acts, it was clear who they were there to see. The photo measures 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and presents with minor wear and surface scuffing. Excellent to Mint condition.
