Offered are six 1950's 45s and 78s on the Phillips label from rock and roll pioneer Bill Justis. In 1951, Justis was taken on by Sam Phillips at Sun Records where he recorded music for himself as well as arranged the music for Sun artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, and Charlie Rich, the latter of which he is credited with discovering. Released in November 1957, his song "Raunchy" was the first rock and roll instrumental hit. Sam Phillips launched Phillips International Records as a sub-label to Sun Records in 1957. This group includes (all in period plain paper sleeves): 1957 Phillips 3519 78 RPM "Raunchy" / "The Midnight Man" (Near Mint+); 1958 Phillips 3522 78 RPM "The Stranger" / "College Man" (Near Mint+); 1958 Phillips 3525 45 RPM "Scroungie" / "Wild Rice" (2 copies, both Near Mint+); 1958 Phillips 3529 45 RPM "Cattywampus" / "Summer Holiday" (Near Mint+); 1959 Phillips 3544 45 RPM "Flea Circus" / "Cloud Nine" (Near Mint). Also included is an original Phillips Records shipping box for the "Scroungie" singles.

Marion Keisker 78 and 45 Records File Copy Collection - Sun Records Office Manager

Marion Keisker, of course, is the office manager of The Memphis Recording Service and Sun Records for Sam Phillips in the 1950s. She was the very woman who was present the day in 1953 that a young singer named Elvis Presley walked into the Memphis Recording Service and recorded his first song. Marion was on hand for that and many other seminal moments in the story of Elvis Presley and the history of Rock and Roll. This collection represents her "file copy" examples of many of the most important records Sam Phillips ever recorded at Sun Records. We rarely employ the term "MINT" when describing collectibles of any kind, but we found ourselves utilizing that condition designation repeatedly while describing these records. The vast majority of them appear to have been brought home by Marion and then NEVER played or handled much at all.
