The offered medium format contact sheet captures eight images of the October 31, 1957, Sy Devore Halloween party. In two of the images we see Elvis Presley in his masquerade mask mingling with a platinum blonde starlet. Many images from the party have circulated over the years, but the two shots of Elvis on the offered sheet were most likely never printed; a notation on the reverse simply states "NO." Other celebs in the photos include bandleader Harry James (in a baseball uniform) and Nat King Cole dressed as Elvis Presley, complete with guitar. Elvis was thrilled to meet Cole, and he and George Klein thought his costume was hilarious.

Elvis was in Los Angeles as part of small concert tour, and he stuck around until November 5 when he sailed for his shows in Hawaii. The party was full of celebrities--Sy Devore was basically an institution as a Hollywood clothier, known as the "tailor to the stars." He opened his clothing store at Hollywood and Vine in 1946, and eventually worked with costume designers from the major studios. He created wardrobe for 100s of films including Oceans 11, The Nutty Professor and Elvis' Viva Las Vegas. Bob Hope once remarked, “In a very good year I have my choice between a Rolls Royce, a new house in Beverly Hills or a suit from Sy Devore.” The party was held at Lucy's New Orleans restaurant in Los Angeles. The sheet measures 8 x 10 inches and presents with minimal wear save one crease in the upper right that doesn't affect the images. Near Mint condition.
