Offered is a wonderful relic from the earliest days of The Beatles rise to legendary superstardom: a postcard signed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr while on the June 29, 1963, episode of the British TV show Thank Your Lucky Stars.
The episode was actually taped on June 23, 1963, and the popular BBC music show used the title Summer Spin during the summer months. That special episode featured Mersey Beat groups, such as The Beatles, that had come out of the era-defining music scene in Liverpool during the preceding few years. The Beatles performed "From Me to You" and "I Saw Her Standing There." Our consignor was on the set for the rehearsal and taping of the show--she was lucky enough to be chosen to be part of the "Spin a Disc" panel of fans on that episode, and her letter and contract from "Iris Productions LTD." are included with the postcard.
During the taping, she approached the boys to sign her postcard. Ringo wrote "Love from the Beatles" and then signed his name, and then signed Paul's name. (This was very common for the boys to do if someone wasn't around--luckily she tracked down Paul later that day had he signed on the front of the card.) John and George signed below Ringo, and all four names are followed by the "XXX" they were putting after their names on most autographs at that time. Interestingly, Rockhurst offered the Beatles signed broadcast-used title card from that very episode of Thank Your Lucky Stars in a previous auction, and the band signed their names in the exact same manner with the "XXX". Between January 1963 and April 1965, The Beatles appeared or were featured on Thank Your Lucky Stars (or the summer version Summer Spin) a total of 12 times. The show was instrumental in their early success.
The "StarPics" postcard "#SP585" shows all four Beatles on the front, a photo taken earlier that year. It measures 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches and presents in well-preserved Near Mint condition. The autographs on the reverse are minimally in the "8-9" range. Accompanied by an LOA from Beckett Authentic.
