Offered is a rarely seen movie theatre die-cut lobby standee for Elvis Presley's 1965 film Girl Happy. Elvis plays nightclub singer Rusty Wells who is tasked with keeping an eye on a Chicago mobster and club owner’s daughter. While Rusty struggles to keep the daughter, Valerie, out of trouble, he manages to get into plenty of his own. This fun, high-energy beach bash won the fourth place Laurel Award for Top Musical of 1965. The film’s co-stars Shelley Fabares, Gary Crosby, Nita Talbot are all listed on the display, along with Elvis. Despite being a beach party musical comedy set in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, most of the filming was conducted at the MGM studios, but the bikini-clad girls on the poster certainly give it that authentic beach vibe.

These displays were created by using the 40 x 60 inch posters for the film that would be mounted to heavier cardboard and die-cut to create a dynamic shape. The display still maintains its original string and circle display attachments on the reverse. These would be used to attach the display to a standee skeleton that the theatre owner would have in place to use for these pieces as they came in for each new film. The display measures 32 1/2 x 59 inches and presents with some edge wear, scuffing and creases at the lower corners. Color is bold and bright. Excellent to Mint condition.
