Offered is an absolute stunning showpiece--a 1967 Atlantic Records record store poster promoting Otis Redding that has been signed by Redding:
"Respect To Lynn, Otis Redding." By 1967, Otis Redding had a string of hits under his belt, including "Respect," "Try a Little Tenderness," and "I've Been Loving You Too Long." His album
King & Queen was released in March 1967, a duet album made with Carla Thomas which produced several singles that were charting. Though Otis had written and released his version of "Respect" in 1965, and included it on his LP
Otis Blue, it was surely back on his mind by April 1967, when Aretha Franklin's version was released and took the whole world by storm. The song spent two weeks at #1 and it pushed her album,
I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, to #2 on the album charts. Aretha's version became an anthem for the era and made her an international star. Otis' reference to the song on the offered signed poster was surely the result of the phenomenon of Aretha's
Respect. It's created one of the finest Otis Redding autographed pieces ever seen. We don't know who Lynn was, but she gets our respect for getting this one signed! The poster is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentic. It measures 24 x 20 inches and has been professionally paperbacked for preservation and to improve certain defects. The poster was printed on heavy stock and then folded twice. The effect of these severe fold lines has been minimized by the process. Apparent Excellent on paper.
