The offered UNI/MCA Records poster was shipped to record stores to promote Elton John's 1972 masterpiece Honky Chateau. The poster also celebrates the ascending star's back catalog of other albums, including Elton John, Tumbleweed Connection, 11-17-70 and Madman Across the Water. On this poster, we get the glorious full-body photograph of Elton in his Western-themed "Nudie" suit. The suit was one of the hundreds of custom suits designed by the legendary Nudie Cohn that were worn by movie stars, rock stars and country music artists over the decades. In stark contrast to the elegant but certainly more moody design of the album itself, promotional pieces for Honky Chateau featured Elton in this fantastic get-up. This poster, and the smaller version offered in this auction, as well as newspaper ads and even billboards all employed the image. The poster measures 22 x 35 inches and presents with no serious wear. Stunning Near Mint to Mint condition.
