Offered is the 11-page contract for Elvis Presley's 1973 NBC television special, Elvis Aloha From Hawaii. The contract is dated August 15, 1972, and is signed by Elvis and representatives of NBC and RCA. By September 4, less than three weeks later, Elvis was having a press conference at The Hilton in Las Vegas with RCA President Rocco Laginestra to announce the upcoming special to be broadcast via satellite on January 14, 1973, to more than "1.4 billion" viewers around the world. The offered contract is one of the most historic documents in American popular culture, representing yet another unprecedented achievement by Elvis Presley.
Amazingly, the contract also references another of Elvis' historic moments, his triumphant "'68 Comeback" NBC television special. This contract actually FINALIZES the sale of the 1968 NBC special to Elvis. A paragraph late in the contract refers to the January 16, 1968 agreement for the "'Special' program" and states that "NBC Productions, Inc. will consent to to purchase of the Special by the Star [Elvis] and you at this time generally in accordance with the provisions of such paragraphs (except that the purchase price will be $1000)." Rarely does a single document involve two such important events in the career of any artist, much less Elvis Presley.
Elvis has signed on page 10, along with Thomas Sarnoff from the "National Broadcasting Company, Inc." and George L. Parkhill of "RCA Record Tours." Also included is an original "GE" corporate internal distribution system envelope. The contract is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Beckett Authenticated. The pages present with with some age-related toning and mild edge wear, but no damage. Excellent to Mint condition.
