Often is a rarely seen NBC poster created to promote Elvis Presley's 1973 TV special concert Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite. The poster was created by artist David Edward Byrd, and was most-likely for use at NBC affiliates. It was common for the networks to create promotional posters for their offices in various cities, and the Aloha special was a huge production that year. Several years ago, Byrd created a limited edition giclee of the poster and related his memory of doing the work for NBC in 1972. David Edward Byrd was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and is known for his musical and rock posters featuring famous musicians such as Prince, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who. Byrd moved to New York City after receiving his BFA and MFA from Carnegie-Mellon University where he studied painting, design, and printmaking. In NYC he aided in establishing the multi-media collective Fantasy Unlimited with friend Peter Nevard and later became the poster and program designer for the Fillmore East in 1968. Byrd’s work is featured in many iconic rock posters, illustrations, and style guides, including those for the first three books of the Harry Potter series. The poster measures 25 x 34 and is framed to an overal size of 31 ½ x 40 inches. Presents in Near Mint condition.
