Offered is an original, double-sided recording acetate containing the Elvis Presley's songs “Hurt” on one side and “For The Heart” on the reverse. The acetate’s red and white RCA Nashville label contains the speed, Elvis’ name, stereo, and the song title all handwritten on each side with “For The Heart” also stating the song length. The acetate comes with a letter from “EP Archives” in Las Vegas in which is mentioned that the acetate “was sent to Elvis’ attention after leaving Memphis during the later part of February. It was sent to the attention of Denver police officer, Ron Pietrafeso who recevied many gifts from Elvis. While he may have listened to the playback at Graceland, he never listed to this acetate in Denver as they arrived after he had already returned.” The letter is signed by Officer Pietrafeso. (The same officer gave Elvis the police baton offered elsewhere in this auction!)
Elvis hosted his first official home recording session in the Jungle Room of Graceland in February of 1976. The jungle-style furniture was moved so that a make-shift RCA studio could be temporarily installed. The recording sessions met with several fits and starts, but in the end Felton Jarvis was able to capture enough material to provide RCA with the basis for a ten-track album, a single and an additional stand-alone single. It was on February 5th when Elvis’ focus became engaged that he recorded the Dennis Linde song “For the Heart” and “Hurt,” a song inspired by the 1954 Roy Hamilton original. The single for these two songs was released in March 1976 while both songs were also included on the album From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee, released by RCA Victor on May 1, 1976. This entire album was composed of the material that Elvis recorded live in this studio set up at Graceland those days in February 1976. “Hurt” made the top 10 in both the country and adult contemporary charts.
The acetate measures 10-Inches in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated (quoted here). Excellent condition.
