In 2018, Bob Dylan put pen to paper and created a set of artworks inspired by some of his most famous compositions. With each drawing, Dylan handwrote the lyrics for the song. After the initial London gallery run of the original artworks, entitled "MONDO SCRIPTO," a limited edition of 495 of each artwork and its lyrics were produced and signed by Dylan. Offered here is "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," in it's elegant deep brown folder, emobssed with the Mondo Scripto folder, hand-numbered "230/495' and signed in the lower right by Dylan. The artwork is printed onto 300 gsm Somerset silk stock with a deckle-edge finish. The impression of a plate mark and embossed logo on each piece are the finishing touches to Dylan’s instantly-recognizable aesthetic.
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" was written by Bob Dylan in 1973 for the soundtrack of the film Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid. It's enticing to assume that the simple, two verse song where a man expresses his angst to his mother is about Billy the Kid, but with Dylan one can never truly know...and he likes it that way. He's notorious for decades of reinterpretations of his classic hits during his live shows, and the offered artwork and the collection from whence it came are an indication that Bob still considers his songs a work in progress.
