Offered is Carl Perkin's Gibson "Blues Hawk" electric guitar that he played at the ceremony when he was inducted into the Hollywood Rock Walk of Fame. The ceremony took place on June 11, 1996, and Perkins was introduced by Tom Petty, who stood by him as he placed his hands and his "Blue Sued Shoes" in the concrete. Gibson guitars presented the offered guitar to Carl at the ceremony, and he wowed the crowd by playing it right then and there! (see video at right). The guitar emanates directly from Carl's family, and the accompnaying letter from his son, Stan Perkins, reads:

In 1996, my dad, Carl Perkins was gifted this red Gibson Blues Hawk guitar by the Gibson Guitar company in celebration for Perkins being inducted into the Hollywood Rock Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, California.

The impact and importance of Carl Perkins' seminal work in rock and roll cannot be overstated. Coming on the heels of Elvis, Perkins' song "Blue Suede Shoes" was one of The King's most successful early hits. Perkins's songs were recorded by artists The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash and Eric Clapton, cementing his prominent place in the history of popular music. Paul McCartney said "if there were no Carl Perkins, there would be no Beatles." Perkins owned and played guitars are tough to find in marketplace, and the offered instrument may have the strongest provenance and video evidence you will ever find. The guitar is accompanied by its original Gibson case. Near Mint condition.
