This group of original, unpublished photographs capture Johnny Cash in concert during the 1970s and 1980s in Madison, Wisconsin. Cash toured relentlessly in 1973, and he in fact played in Madison on October 28th that year, in addition to dozens of other cities in the U.S., the U.K., Australia and New Zealand. He had six albums on record store shelves that year, including two studio albums, a live album and three compilation albums. The 1973 photos include seven 3 ½ x 3 ½ inch photos with “OCT 73” processing date printed in the margin. By 1982, his output was slowing a bit, but he still had at least four new records in circulation when he again played Madison at the Dane County Coliseum on February 18 with his wife, June Carter Cash. The two 5 x 7 inch photos have the written notation “Madison, WI 2-18-82.” The two larger photos show only mild wear (Near Mint), but the smaller photos have all suffered some sort of water damage (Very Good to Excellent).
