Offered is an early 1970's Elvis Presley souvenir styrofoam "straw" hat that was sold at souvenir stands at his concerts at the Las Vegas Hilton in the period. The red paper band still adhered to the hat reads "ELVIS SUMMER FESTIVAL / RCA" but DOES NOT includes the blue Hilton logo--this may indicate it is from 1972, just as The International was becoming the Hilton. The styrofoam construction made these hats ephemeral, by nature, but the offered example has survived intact. The Colonel, always keen to exploit any cost-effective marketing method that could be used for multiple events, venues and dates, adopted the Styrofoam hat for use at Elvis’ performances and simply swapped the colored bands to advertise the location, event and record label. The hat measures 11 x 12 ½ x 3 ½ inches and presents with some wear to the paper band, which has faded only very slightly from its original red color--it remains one of the more BOLDLY COLORED examples we have seen. The styrofoam body is intact but is missing one internal rubber band. Excellent to Mint condition.
