Please Note:
A portion of the proceeds from sale of the Elton John lots, 229–281, will be donated to The Elton John Aids Foundation.

The offered incredibly luxurious "Shanghai Tang" brand green velvet and silk suit was owned by Elton John and sold at his November 2000 "Out of the Closet" store in London. The store was open for only 10 days, with the proceeds from the sale of thousands of Elton John's garments and stage clothing going to charity. (see image at right of Elton John at the opening of the store) The tag from the sale is still attached to the coat, and it reads "Elton John Aids Foundation / Out of the Closet III." Elton went through a period in the 1990s when he was partial to this lush style of cropped collar suit, and he can be seen in a number of photograph wearing similar garments. The suit is from a luxury brand, and its construction indicates as much, with the wonderful green velvet fabric and the 100% silk lining. Elton John's "Closet" sales are well-known, and many items are just basic everyday brands that any of us would wear. But the offered ensemble falls into that other category, that "rock star" category of luxury clothing that Elton would treat himself to now and again. The size "44" coat and pants present with some wear, especially to the pants, with areas of distress to the velvety fabric. Excellent to Mint condition.
