The man seen with Elvis in this photo was M. A. Hinds, the Memphis Chief of Detectives. The shot was most-likely taken at some sort of fundraising event supporting local law enforcement in Memphis. Elvis carried his passion for police work throughout his entire adult life, and it was commonplace for him to do philanthropic work in support of law enforcement. The newsroom photo editor, however, was less than respectful towards the policeman in this photo, bruskly crossing him out and drawing a large, dark arrow pointing at Elvis--I'm not sure the directions were all that necessary to make sure Elvis was featured in the paper. The newsroom notation on the reverse reads “Elvis Presley & M.A. Hinds 4/63.” The photo measures 8 x 10 inches. The photo presents with expected newsroom markings and some very minor scuffing and creases, but it is VERY clean. Near Mint condition.
