In 1976, Denver Police Captain Jerry Kennedy and Deputy Chief Bob Cantwell presented Elvis with the offered honorary Denver Police "Captain" badge--it was originally inside the custom badge wallet offered as the previous lot in this auction. Elvis spent a lot of time with members of the Denver police department that year, inviting several officers on a Vail ski vacation. After an officer from the department died in the line of duty, Elvis made a sizable donation for a gym used by the department. He arrived at the funeral in a full officer's uniform. There are many photos of Elvis with Captain Kennedy and Deputy Chief Cantwell, as well as other members of the Denver force. The offered badge (and the wallet in the previous lot) were originally offered in the historic sale of Jimmy Velvet's collection in 1996. Accompanied by copies of the November 3, 1996, “Elvis Presley Museum” catalog where the wallet was first offered as lot 128. Also accompanied by a copy of the certificate of authenticity signed by Jimmy Velvet from his 1999 “LEGENDS Collection” auction. The badge measures 1 ¾ x 2 ½ inches and presents in Near Mint condition.
