Offered is a "TCB ELVIS PRESLEY" Name Badge from one of the events related to his Ten Outstanding Young Men for 1970 award ceremony in Memphis, Tennessee. Elvis and Priscilla hosted a private dinner prior to the awards ceremony for 100 guests at the Four Flames Restaurant. This dinner was one of the more exclusive events that rounded out that day--these name tags were given to guests at the party. Several of Elvis' Memphis Mafia members can be seen still wearing the name tags (see photos at left of Lamar Fike, Charlie Hodge and Dick Grob) at the Jaycees Award ceremony. These name badges are rarely seen, and we have not handled but one or two others in the last 10 years--they are definitely one of the toughest pieces related to the 1970 Jaycee's award events.
Being chosen as one of the Jaycees Ten Outstanding Young Men for 1970 was one of Elvis’ proudest moments. Elvis took such pride in this recognition that it was the only award that Elvis would ever accept in person and also give an acceptance speech. The other events included a prayer breakfast, press conference, a luncheon (where future President George H. W. Bush spoke), a private tour of Graceland for the other winners and Jaycees officials, and the evening award ceremony. The offered badge presents with its original adhesive intact on the reverse. Near Mint condition.
