Offered is Elvis Presley's International Kenpo Karate Association gold metal ID card certifying that he was a 7th degree black belt as of August 16, 1974. Elvis karate instructor Ed Parker had these elaborate metal ID cards made at Apollo Trophy in Los Angeles. Later Ed became one of Elvis bodyguards, and these ID cards were the inspiration of the "Elvis Presley Show" gold metal ID cards that Apollo trophy made for Elvis' tour members. Elvis was incredibly serious about his martial arts training, and his interest stretched back to his first introduction back in his days in the Army. Over the years he trained under several masters, most notably Khang Rhee in Memphis and Ed Parker. The card was eventually gifted by Elvis to J.D. Sumner of The Stamps Quartet, Elvis' backup singing group all through the 1970s. J.D. was the recipient of a great many gifts from Elvis. The card is accompanied by a certified copy of the May 1, 1980, bill of sale between J.D. Sumner and Mike Moon. The card remained in the Mike Moon collection for more than 35 years. The card measures 3 ½ x 2 ¼ inches and presents with minor wear to the front with all the original engraving perfectly readable. The reverse exhibits tape residue from prior display. Excellent condition.
