Offered is Elvis Presley's personally owned and used 1956 Elvis Presley Enterprises Overnight Case. Elvis gave the case, full of books for her, to his girlfriend Barbara Leigh during their time together in the early 1970s. The case emanates from Leigh, and her accompanying handwritten letter of authenticity reads:
Elvis kept his small personal books in this case. Some fan had given it to him the late 60's early 70's. Although I do not know who that fan was, Elvis got a kick out of it. The colors are grey blue and Elvis loved blue. At the time Elvis passed this case on to me he was in one of his giving moods and gave it to me to carry the books he gave me home in. Chairo was one of Elvis' favorite books, subjects. He knew the book by heart. Elvis would teach anyone who was interested in Chairo's book of numbers. He delighted in telling one their number sign. He loved to teach! He loved to read. B. Leigh
From Leigh's autobiography The King, McQueen and The Love Machine: “I met Elvis on August 30, 1970, in Las Vegas when he was headlining at the Las Vegas International Hotel. I was a fashion model and aspiring actress, who just happened to be his “type.” We met backstage, and for the next two years of my life, Elvis Presley was a friend and lover. During those years, I got to know Elvis as a man who was kind, sincere, gentle, funny, and even humble. He lived for his fans and gave them 100 percent of himself. In almost every way, he belonged to them. Because of Elvis’ enormous popularity, he constantly struggled to maintain his privacy, his perspective on life, and eventually even struggled to maintain his sanity. I was with Elvis in the down time—those quiet hours between the shows, and away from the public. It was in those times that I really got to know just how lovely and complex he was. Yes, Elvis had his faults, but I’ve never met another man quite like him.”
The offered case missing the mirror on the interior. The original mirrors often broke on these cases. The case measures 12 1/4 by 8 1/2 by 6 inches and presents with minor edge wear. Near Mint condition.
