Elvis Presley Original Nicholas Volpes Artwork from the Legendary "Brown Derby" Restaurant in Hollywood

Offered is the Nicholas Volpe original pastel artwork of Elvis Presley that hung in the famous Brown Derby Restaurant in Hollywood, California. The artwork hung in the "Gold Record Room," which contained dozens of paintings commemorating musicians who achieved record sales of one-million or more during the decades of the 40's and 50's. The list includes a Who's Who of the recording industry of the era: Petula Clark, Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis, Pat Boone, Patti Page, Jerry Lewis, Sam Cooke, Dave Brubeck, Hank Williams, Lena Horne and many more. And a place dubbed the "Gold Record Room" would be incomplete without Elvis Presley. Tens of thousands competed to gain reservations to the restaurants over the decades to catch sight of personalities and to view the portraits that adorned the walls. The restaurant deaccessioned the collection some years ago, and several other examples will be available in our upcoming April 2024 auction. The artwork, based on an image of Elvis from the late 1960s in his film Live a Little, Love a Little, is still in the original frame that graced the walls of The Brown Derby, complete with its small "Gold Record" disc attached to the matte. Volpe has signed boldly in the lower right, and the name "Elvis Presley" is written on the matte. The framed display measures 15 x 17 iches. Near Mint condition.
