Offered are three never-before-seen photographs of Elvis Presley taken during his U.S. Army basic training while stationed at Ford Hood, Texas. The photos came from the estate of a soldier that served at Fort Hood with Elvis, and a handwritten note from his wife's family accompanies. The note reads "These photos, clippings and post card were handed down to us by my step mother from her late husband. Joan Perkins and Brian Perkins. Brian served with Elvis and that is how he got these items. Brian said he was a humble and kind man, very funny and upbeat. That that was one of his favorite people and buddie from that era of his life."
The eleven newspaper clippings referenced in the letter also accompany, and mostly feature stories about Elvis during his transfer to Germany after basic training. And the "post card" mentioned is also available as the previous lot in this auction--it features a wonderful 1958 Elvis Presley signature on the back!
The photos capture Private Presley outside the barracks at Fort Hood, with one featuring the soldier that thought so highly of him. The reverse of two of the photos are marked "Aug. 1958 Elvis" while one is errantly marked "Aug. 1957". The period photos measure 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and present with some wear and stainging on the reverse, none of which affects the image area. Excellent condition.
