The Elvis Presley scarf maintains a absolutely unique place in the world of Rock and Roll artifacts. Elvis created a nightly tradition that he would hand out any number of scarves to fans in the front row during concerts in the 1970s. They would scream and swoon as he dragged the scarf across his neck or face to absorb a little of his magic sweat. As soon as one was handed out, his right hand man Charlie Hodge was there to replace it with another. Colonel Parker eventually semi-hijacked this process, providing Charlie with scarves with Elvis' facsimile signature on them for handing from the stage--the same scarves that were available at the souvenir stands.
The offered ivory-colored, silk scarf, however, emanates from an even more personal category of Elvis neckwear-his personal wardrobe. It was gifted to the Judy West, wife of Memphis Mafia member Sonny West in the 1970s. The accompanying June 15, 1995, letter from Sonny West on his personal “TCB” letterhead reads “This letter is to confirm the authenticity of a white scarf given to my wife Judy by Elvis Presley. She remarked to him how beautiful his scarves were, and he gave her some from his personal collection. He was a very generous man with those close to him and got a lot of pleasure in given to them.” Elvis showered his close friends with any number of gifts during their time together. The invory scarf measures 36 1/4 x 34 1/2 inches and presents with some mild staining in a few areas. Excellent to Mint condition.
