Elvis Presley was a voracious reader and seeker of knowledge both spiritual and historical. He devoured books over the years, and it was quite common for him to give them to his closest friends, like Marty Lacker. Lacker was a seminal Memphis Mafia member and co-best man at Elvis' wedding to Priscilla. The offered book was gifted to Marty, and his accompanying letter of authenticity reads in part “It is well known that Elvis had a vast book collection on a number of subjects, religion, politics, the government and others with power and influence in the country. At times he and I discussed politics because he knew I was interested in it. After reading a book he would sometimes hold onto it for a few years and then give it to one of the guys, he gave me a number of books through the years on subjects he knew I was interested in. One of those books was the highly acclaimed 'The Vantage Point Perspectives of the Presidency-1963-1969' by Lyndon Baines Johnson. It is an in-depth look at the Presidency of Johnson who took office after the sudden death of JFK. I have decided to sell this book, and it is now owned by Michael Werner of Las Vegas. Respectfully, Marty Lacker.” Lacker has signed in black ink. The 1971 first edition of the tome measures 6 ½ x 9 inches and still has its original dust jacket. While the dust jacket shows signs of moderate to heavy handling, the book itself presents in better condition. The book was obviously read several times. Excellent condition overall.
